The members, who were politically involved in the 1968 student and workers’ protests, strove to overcome tradition and bourgeois values in their design work by introducing new and provocative solutions for the organization of living spaces. Aesthetically informed by the contemporaneous Pop Art movement, they designed a repertoire of kitschy, ‘outlandish’ objects that refuted Functionalism using irony and an abundance of decoration. This included the Safari, a modular sofa with two basic units: a lounge chair and a two-seater corner sofa with a seat carved out of a cubic volume and upholstered in fake fur that could be assembled into a domestic setting. The Safari was produced by Poltronova after the company’s founder, Sergio Cammilli, had discovered Archizoom at the 1966 Superarchitettura exhibition in Pistoia and boldly asked the group to design for his company.1 Even though Safari did not conform to market expectations, Poltronova managed to market it in such a way that it became a great media success and an icon of the Italian Radical Design movement. It is part of the permanent collection of prestigious museums including the Centre Pompidou and the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal. Crafted in the 1930s, this lamp is one of only six ever made, making it a unique addition to any vintage or design enthusiast's collection. The lamp features a stunning combination of cream-colored curved glass and elegant copper holders, offering a timeless and sophisticated look that complements both modern and classic interiors. Originally illuminating the renowned Thalia Theater, this piece carries a rich history, having survived the transformation from a church to a theater and through the trials of World War II.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0795/4166/6138/files/exclusive-large-art-deco-wall-lamp-from-thalia-theater-ijmuiden-6802384.jpg?v=1764381195
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0795/4166/6138/files/original-libro-chair-by-gruppo-dam-for-busnelli-9193071.jpg?v=1764464074
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0795/4166/6138/files/handmade-sculptural-metal-chair-1980s-2023306.png?v=1775563208
mid-century-italian-teak-wall-unit
Mid-Century Italian Teak Wall Unit

Artist unknown

1960s

H 200cm W 173cm D 39cm

This stunning modular wall unit embodies the elegance and functionality of Italian mid-century modern design. The A63 F lounge chair belongs to a group of bentwood chairs that Josef Frank designed for Thinet around 1929, electing to use the solid beech rods with a round cross section traditionally used for bentwood furniture. A single bentwood element forms the back legs and backrest frame, while two others provide the front legs and armrests. The backrest with its thin spindles recalls that of the traditional English Windsor chair. The seat is made of plywood, and the legs are connected by a bentwood ring. The seat is low, in keeping with the chair’s function as a lounge chair.

The chair has an attribution mark underneath its seat and is in a solid, good vintage condtion.
