Steen Ostergaard

Steen Østergaard (1935–2019) was a Danish furniture designer best known for his pioneering work with injection-moulded plastics in the 1960s — work that places him alongside Verner Panton as one of the key figures in Danish plastic furniture design. His chair 290, produced by Cado, was among the earliest Scandinavian plastic chairs and was exported across Europe and North America.

Østergaard also produced refined work in wood and upholstery, but his plastic pieces have attracted the greatest collector attention in recent years as interest in the materials and forms of 1960s design has grown.
