Verner Panton

Verner Panton (1926–1998) was the most radical voice in Danish design — a designer who refused the warmth of wood and the caution of Scandinavian restraint in favour of plastic, colour, and pure sculptural form. The Panton Chair (1967), the first single-piece cantilevered plastic chair in the world, became the defining object of its decade.

Panton's interiors — the Visiona environments for Bayer, the Spiegel canteen in Hamburg — remain among the most photographed spaces of the twentieth century.
