Thonet

Michael Thonet's bentwood technique, patented in 1856, changed the history of furniture manufacturing. The No. 14 café chair — the most produced chair in history — demonstrated that good design and mass production need not be in conflict.

Thonet pieces are celebrated by collectors for the purity of their form: steam-bent beechwood, Vienna cane seats, and a structural clarity that has never gone out of fashion. Original pre-war Thonet and mid-century reissues both carry significant value. Collectors Network features authenticated Thonet pieces selected by specialist vintage dealers, from iconic bentwood café chairs to the brand's later tubular steel designs.
