About the work

Created in 1961, Due Nudi belongs to an important period in Marini’s graphic work, in which the human figure became increasingly reduced to expressive lines, gestures and contrasting areas of light and dark.

The composition is recorded in Giorgio and Guido Guastalla’s catalogue raisonné of Marini’s graphic work as LM1961. Other documented impressions were produced in connection with the publication Marino Marini Plastik, Stuttgart, 1961.

About Marino Marini

Born in Pistoia in 1901, Marino Marini became one of the defining figures of post-war Italian art. He is best known internationally as one of the leading Italian sculptors of the twentieth century, but drawing and printmaking also formed an important part of his practice.

His works on paper reveal the same interest in the human body, movement and simplified form that characterises his sculpture. His work was exhibited extensively internationally, including major European exhibitions and retrospectives at institutions such as Kunsthaus Zürich.
